Recycling aims to save important resources and Germans are famous for having the most efficient recycling system in the world. There are different coloured bins for paper and cardboard, glass, biological waste, batteries and plastics.
Glass and paper is not part of the household rubbish bin, but collected in public containers. In Dusseldorf there are bottle banks for white, green and brown glass. Normally right beside it there are further containers for paper and cardboard. There are many such collection points . The ordinary house rubbish gets collected weekly or every two or three days, depending on the area . To dispose of bulky rubbish such as old furniture. one can call the AWISTA, (they are responsible for waste management and cleaning in the city Düsseldorf,) and agree the collection of special rubbish at a specific date and time.
