The IGCC is a non-profit organization with its head-office in Mumbai, onetime Bombay, branch offices in Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata or Calcutta and Chennai or Madras and a liaison office in Dusseldorf. The organization was established in 1913 and incorporated on 14 January 1956.

A committee of twenty elected Indian and German members who are leading industrialists and CEOs of German and Indo-German companies form the head of the organization. The office bearers of the Chamber are the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Director General. An equal number of Germans and Indians are on the Committee and the elected President rotates between Indian and German origin. The IGCC offers contacts to business partners in both countries and provides legal information and legal aid for members. Another standard sphere is debt collecting. Specialized tasks are in the field of human ressources recruitment and credit rating.
