The German-British Society, Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft, was founded in 1949 and is a politically independent organisation. The club promotes nationwide German-British relationships in public and cultural life.
The topical political, economic and cultural questions important for Germany and Great Britain are brought up for discussion and should contribute to the understanding and knowledge of both cultures. Prejudices are helped to be abolished and international personal contacts can be made and maintained. Furthermore, European and transatlantic connections shall be strengthened by this program.
In 1950 a thematically broad conference about politics and culture was opened, the Königswinter Konferenz. Since 1975 it takes place alternately in Germany and Great Britain. This exchange of ideas concerning politics and history takes place between politicians, German and British parliamentarians and journalists. A similar forum is also offered for young Germans and Britons - the Jung Königswinter which exists since 1960. A third conference, the so-called Wirtschafts-Königswinter, takes place since 2001 in a small circle of persons from economics and politics.
The general offering of the Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft, DBG range from speeches to English language theatrical performances and exhibits up to their frequent newsletter. The DBG informs about their nationwide program too.
