The International English Library, donated by the British government to the city of Düsseldorf, is Our Library . There is nowhere else like it in Germany. It is truly a little corner of the English speaking world, a wonderful place to meet, a truly multicultural environment with so many nationalities mingling, sharing the same interest in English literature. But it is not a little corner ignored by modernity. It is also a truly modern library with the newest books and DVDs.

The library's shelves house almost 20,000 books written in English, including fiction, short stories, biographies, detective stories and world-acclaimed literature. They also include non-fiction, history, philosophy, literary criticism, geography and travel. Furthermore, they have books for children and for young adults.

Any member can take out books or films for just €10 a year. Fiction and non-fiction can be taken out for four weeks. Reference works and dictionaries are also available for use in the library.

The British Army Council gave this library to the people of Dusseldorf in 1946 and since February 1999, it has been run by the "Friends of the International Library e.V." whose members give their time and energy on a voluntary basis.
They gratefully accept donations of English books and videos and recent magazines.
