Many high-ranking representatives from politics and economy have held speeches in this club, Dr. Konrad Adenauer, the current German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mikhail Gorbachev for example.
The Industrie-Club Düsseldorf exists since 1912. Its former purpose has been the support of the rapprochement between the war opponents. Its current aim is to be a forum for leading personalities of business, politics and the scientific-cultural life. Furthermore this most traditional of clubs would like to be a place of communication and a helpful orientation in the exchange of ideas and in a trusting cooperation with each other. Also understanding among nations and tolerant thinking are important aspects of its program.
During the past years the Industrie-Club increasingly promotes science, research and apprenticeship by different initiatives. The Wissenschaftspreis of the Industrie-Club or the cooperation with the Heinrich Heine Universität with its many projects are some examples. At the moment a scientific publication of the club is prepared in cooperation with the historian Dr. Volker Ackermann. This work exists of the accumulated speeches which have been held in the club over the years. With the help of these speeches the past and the self-image of the club which is based on continuity, integrity and orientation should be shown.
