With about 6,500 people the Japanese community in Dusseldorf and its surroundings is the 3rd-biggest in Europe. About 5000 Japanese are members in the Japanese Club proving its popularity. In 1964 it was registered in the Dusseldorf municipality.
Several committees coordinate the various offerings of the Japanese Club. Sports, culture, pleasure and questions pertaining to life in Dusseldorf are important parts in the programme of the club. The sports sections offer many sports competitions in volleyball, badminton or soccer. Also traditional sports such as Kendo and Karate may not be absent, of course. And the cultural sector of the Japanese Club organises visits to the opera, concerts, sight-seeing bus tours, Sakura, book bazaars, and read and tell meetings.
A fantastic special is the annual Japanese Day, which always takes place on 2 June. The Japanese Club organizes and participates in the largest spectacular event of its kind in cooperation with the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Public information is spread by the Japanese Bulletin Magazine, which is published six times a year. Also many useful links to other institutions are to be found on their homepage. One can click directly to the Japanese Consulate General, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry or to the Japanese School.
Those interested can apply for different kinds of membership; corporate, private or family.
