The Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf was founded in 1935 as the Robert Schumann Konservatorium. At the beginning of the 1970s it changed its name, gaining the status of an institution in higher education but did not gain the rank of independent university until 1987.
There are two faculties which can be chosen for studies. The first offers instrumental music performance, conducting and voice. As supplementary programs, choose between concert exams, composition, chamber music, piano chamber music and accompaniment and orchestra exams. The second faculty offers evangelical and catholic church music as well as audio engineering and picture technology.
