The Langen Foundation is a museum owing its existence to the single initiative of two art lovers. Marianne Langen and her husband Viktor started to collect art in the 1950s and finally fulfilled a dream with the construction of a museum in 2004.
The building planned by Japanese architect Tadao Ando since then puts on display their passion for the modern and contemporary art of the West, varyingly displaying among others works of Cézanne, Beckmann and Warhol, as well as Japanese art from the 12th to 19th century.
The museum’s exhibitions are temporal and thus meant to trigger a lively dialogue with art and between those who share an affinity towards it.
Currently on display (until May 12th 2008) is an installation designed by Karl Lagerfeld especially for the “Langen Foundation”. With “Konkret abstrakt gesehen” (“Concrete Abstractly Seen“) the designer presents large-format photography of textures and patterns. His shots of details create a completely new and abstract perception of rather mundane objects.
With his exhibition Karl Lagerfeld aesthetically enters into a dialogue with the surrounding architecture by Japanese artist Tadao Ando.
