The Shipping Museum is located in the only preserved building of the ducal castle of Dusseldorf which burned down in 1872. The Castle Tower is one of the city's landmarks next to the Rhine.
For the new millennium, the whole tower was renovated and was reopened in 2001. Visitors can have a look at he history of the last 200 years of inland navigation of the Rhine. Features are the development of shipping and tourism, ferries, bridges and harbours in Dusseldorf. In line with recent development concerning fishing and aspects like ecological disasters the museum also addresses these themes. With many multimedia arrangements as well as photos, graphics and films the visit should be very vivid for children, too.
Enjoy the fantastic view of the Rhine and the city by ascending to the top floor of the tower, where the bistro offers refreshments.
