The international shoe fair in Düsseldorf takes place twice a year: in autumn and spring. and is exclusively for professionals, especially purchasers from specialist shops and agencies. Man’s, lady’s, and child’s shoes in particular as well as accessories and handbags are the subject of the fair. The event took place from 14 till 16 September 2007.
About 1.392 exhibitors from 45 countries presented their shoe and handbag collections for the coming spring/summer season 2008. The three-day shoe fair resulted in 33.500 transactions, and GDS continued its steady upward trend of the previous year. Due to the participation of affluent newcomers in this and the last season, an annual turnover of more than 10 million euros was observed. In the meantime it has become an indisputable fact that Düsseldorf plays an essential role in the international shoe and leather goods industry.
Crowded booths, satisfied exhibitors and buyers characterised the picture of the event. Trendy specials, up-to-the-minute styles as well as diversity of brands were rated as a success by customers. 70% of the buyers also appreciated the extensive information programme which contained numerous fashion shows and presentations.. Especially “Prime Square”, “Wellness & Comfort”, “Exclusivity”, “Young Fashion”, and “White Cubes” were received with great interest.
Representatives for such leading companies as Breuninger, Carpe Diem, Zumnorde (Germany), Stiefelkönig (Austria), Manwood (Netherlands), Notabene (Denmark), Shelly’s (Great Britain), SJ Internatinal (USA), and Barney’s (Japan) informed visitors about new trends. The largest number of exhibitors came from Germany, Benelux counties, Great Britain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Greece, France, Austria, the USA, South Africa, Australia, and Japan.
Next year the international shoe fair will take place in the period from 14 to 16 March and from 12 to14 September 2008 in the exhibition centre of Düsseldorf.
