Along with the beautiful countryside of the lowland there is also a great number of historical buildings and monuments to visit. For example, the museum Island Hombroich or the moated castle Dyck.

The Museum Island Hombroich is fascinating open air contemporary art museum. The museum was originated in remembrance of Paul Cézanne and uses the phrase “culture parallel to nature” as the central theme. In the year 1982, the Hombroich-founder Karl-Heinrich Müller began with the realisation of his project. It's now a cultural foundation and open to the public.

The moated Castle Dyck is one of the most important historical buildings in the Rhineland. The manor house was built between 1636 and 1663. The castle is furnished with ancient pieces of furniture and shows a unique weapon collection. The castle garden was laid out in 1794 in the style of an English landscape garden.

The Neuss Shooting Competition is the largest competition of its kind worldwide. It takes place every year on the last weekend in August. Nearly 6.500 shooters and 1200 musicians participate in the event. There's not only the shooting competition but there's the King’s Parade, processions and a number of colorful events. It's the social highlight of the year and attracts a million visitors each year.

The yearly music festival Rock am Turm in Meerbusch draws primarily a younger crowd. Its first priority is to let young and unknown bands appear on the stage.

You don't have to wait for winter and travel to the Alps to go skiing.  Go skiing any time of the year at the Ski Hall in Neuss. Who needs mountains?
